The Molly Baz Recipe Roundup

I first came across Molly Baz during the pandemic through the Bon Appétit YouTube era 🎥. Since then, she’s gone solo and has absolutely been rocking it. In 2021, she released her first cookbook: Cook This Book: Techniques That Teach and Recipes to Repeat. I only remember making her Orzo al Limone from that book — but it was so good. It was actually the first dish I ever made for my in-laws when they visited us as a married couple. I need to go back and look through that cookbook again to see what else is in there.

During that same pandemic era, I also made her Adult Mac and Cheese and Pasta al Limone from Bon Appétit and loved both. Then came More Is More: Get Loose in the Kitchen , and I tried her two smoothie recipes — Bloo Smoo and Tahini Date Shake Smoo 🥤. They’re tasty, just not really for me. I also made her Rigatoni with Cream Leeks and Chivey Breadcrumbs — and I loved it. Highly recommend 👏.

Fast forward to this month’s cookbook club More Is More was our featured book, so I made a bunch more of her recipes:

And for cookbook club night, I brought Earl Grey and Apricot Jam Scones 🫖 — as Earl Grey’s biggest fan, this was an easy yes for me. I loved them and will definitely be making them again soon.

Some of the savory recipes I tried this week weren’t totally my thing. They’re really creative — funky and fun — but the flavor combos are a bit outside of my comfort zone. That said, the ones I made earlier (especially the pasta) are ones I’ll come back to.

So far, that makes 12 Molly Baz recipes I’ve cooked — and I know there’ll be more in the future.

This Week’s Recipe Test Summary

Impress Someone🌟

Marbled Chocolate Sugar Cookies – Cookies: The New Classics by Jesse Szewczyk 🍪
I’m in love with these cookies. It might be the amount of butter that makes them so good — or the marbling that makes it feel like you’re eating two different cookies with every bite. I froze the extra dough balls and have been baking them throughout the week and sharing with friends.

Earl Grey and Apricot Jam Scones – More Is More: Get Loose in the Kitchen by Molly Baz 🍑
My favorite jam is apricot, and my favorite tea is Earl Grey — so I might be biased, but I loved these. I brought them to cookbook club and they were gone fast. Not a crumb left. Super easy to make and perfect for a brunch spread.

Would Make Again 👍

The Best Mashed Potatoes!Gimme Some Oven 🥔
Love finding a recipe where I already have everything at home. These came together super fast and were the fluffiest mashed potatoes I’ve made. Definitely adding them to my lunch rotation.

Quick & Easy Ricotta Pesto Pasta – Easy Everyday: 100 Recipes and Meal Prep Ideas for Effortless Eats by Jessica Merchant 🍝
I had Costco pesto and some leftover ricotta — that’s all I needed for a creamy, simple lunch.

Chicken Pesto MeatballsNY Times Cooking by Dan Pelosi 🍗
Used leftover frozen ground chicken and some extra pesto to make these. They paired perfectly with the ricotta pesto pasta — easy and satisfying.

How to Make Oat Milk Love & Lemons 🥛
Since I started making my own almond milk for smoothies, I figured why not try oat milk too? I don’t drink it plain, but I use it in recipes and it’s been great. No more store-bought needed.

Spinach Cucumber SmoothieWholly Tasteful 🥒
A healthy, refreshing smoothie — light and super easy to blend up.

Creamsicle Kefir Popsicles @thrivewithcandicee 🍊🍦
My sister sent me this one and I might be obsessed. I love popsicles, and a healthy one is even better. I added a splash of vanilla and a bit of honey for flavor. I made them for the kids and myself — and immediately made a second batch.

Would Not Make Again 👎

These recipes didn’t live up to expectations or weren’t to my taste

I’ve been improving my soup game (H loves them), but these didn’t do it for me. Just okay.

These were all creative and fun to try, but just not recipes I’d repeat. A little outside my flavor comfort zone.

Flavor was too subtle.

Refreshing but just okay — I wouldn’t make these again

Both were a bit too sweet for me.

Something was off with these — either too little flavor, too moist, or the texture didn’t hold.

I’d love to hear your thoughts, suggestions, or any recipe requests you might have. Just respond directly to this email.

See you next week. Keep cooking! 👋
